I started this blog page primarily for the experience and entertainment of tackling anther technical hurdle in my Information Technology career. Shortly thereafter my wife and I shared our long-term goals and vision for the future. We came to the realization that we did not want or need to be surrounded with technology nor did it really benefit our relationship. More, it hindered our interaction with each other and the attention the children need and deserve. Though, technology is my career and something I enjoy, we do not want tv, video games, movies, etc to be the center of our children’s entertainment. Actually, for the most part, the majority of the children are on board with this decision.
To separate ourselves from the temptation of “easy entertainment” we have been trying, instead, to use our time in new experimental projects that are both entertaining and can contribute to the family. These projects, mainly include the interaction and participation of our children. One example of this is the construction of our own cold cider press. This was made on a whim, trying to make use of the apples that have volunteered to grow on our acreage. Another example of this is simple living entertainment for the children, to include a homemade see-saw, a slack line, and weekly camp fires.
Another passion that we both share is the potential option of a small house. This is not a typical small house, having 1800 square feet, two bathrooms, and three bedrooms, but is closer to the new fad of a “tiny house”. So, because of our shared passion, this is also pushing us toward reducing what we own to fit into our new, smaller lifestyle.
With that, this blog page will hopefully show you the multiple projects and goals our family has in mind for simple living. Please feel free to browse around our current projects and leave some feedback if there is anything in particular you are interested in. Our current projects include the following list and should be added to this site soon. These can be found under the separate categories on the right.
