Here is the picture heavy update of the chicken coop.
We had to break from our current ‘free supplies’ streak to buy some insulation. Protecting the birdlets from our harsh South Dakota winters is a priority. It also means that we are getting quite close to moving the stinky little cuties out of the house!
The birds themselves are looking very scraggy and adolescent, but, with a little imagination, you can see the potentially beautiful feathering. Keeping up with chicken bedding has also become a chore. Instead of buying bedding, we have decided to use what we have and make what is needed with the chainsaw.
The chicken yard is also moving along nicely with 6 foot chain-link fencing all around and a hole for a gate. It looks more like a prison yard than a chicken yard, but that is how we like it!
Also, new for this weekend, LOFT PLAY HOUSE!
Yep, the kids are excited. Ostensibly, this is to be used for straw bales and other chicken supplies, but we know better. 🙂
